Fixing Teeth in Silver Spring MD

Most dentistry looks like dentistry. Our goal is to provide dentistry that is undetectable. We replace existing dental crowns and fillings with restorations that look and feel like your natural teeth.

What is a Dental Crown?

Where damage to a person’s teeth is extreme, and apparently beyond repair, we can use porcelain or porcelain “pasted on gold” crowns to make the smile appear “as new”. This is an extremely reliable technique for repairing the most severe of dental problems, even permanently replacing missing teeth to offer a complete smile and a functional bite. We are renowned for the quality of our work and the fantastic changes we make for people using this technology. These treatments are used for a long-lasting correction of major dental problems.

How long does it take to fit a dental crown?

Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, make impression for the final crown, and fit it with a temporary crown of either plastic or metal.

On the subsequent visit we will remove the temporary crown, and then fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown into place and you have a new beautiful looking tooth.

Key Benefits of Dental Crowns

  • Replaces missing teeth
  • Offers support to misshapen teeth or badly broken teeth
  • Feels completely natural
  • Fixes “smile” and functional chewing problems

What are the capabilities of crowns?

Crown and bridgework is a very reliable solution for major dental problems caused through accidents, diseases or wear and tear. Major problems can usually be corrected using these techniques. Material used in these repairs is either high-grade porcelain, or porcelain bonded to gold. A higher strength of the porcelain and gold materials is recommended to treat the most serious of dental problems. Where accidental damage has occurred, resulting in lost teeth, or where teeth have broken away through excessive wear, or as the result of old fillings breaking, crowns and/or bridges can be used as a long-term solution.

Many people have unexplained pain from filled back teeth, which is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function for these teeth. In front teeth, older fillings can both weaken the teeth and cause “appearance” problems due to staining or chipping. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can prevent breakage.

Patient Review

I've been going to Dr. Tekle for the approximately 15 years and before that when she was in practice with Elliott Shapiro, DDS. I'm a satisfied 'customer' and feel that way each time I go which is every three months. I've had (have) a number dental, gum, mouth and other problems over the years which Dr. Tekle has corrected. She also does a thorough job of checking the entire mouth and the glands in the neck. She identified a serious thyroid problem and the walked me to a endocrinologist office in the building and described the problem to the doctor. I was taken immediately and treated for a condition that was life threatening. She always takes care to avoid any necessary discomfort.

Patient Review

I have had many traumatic dental experiences and I've finally found a dentist I can trust. I have a very low threshold for pain but Dr. Tekle and her staff are always very patient with me and work extremely hard to make sure that I'm comfortable. While I doubt that I'll ever actually enjoy going to the dentist, I'm at least put at ease knowing that I'm in good hands whenever i'm at Dr. Tekle's office. I would definitely recommend her to others interested in a relatively painless and professionally executed procedure.

Patient Review

I have been very impressed with Dr Tekle. On my first visit, she went over all my dental issues, allowing me to see with a mirror each issue which needed work. She also spent considerable time reviewing my diet and dental hygiene to see how I might improve. On subsequent visits she has performed the required work in a way that minimized my discomfort, frequently checking to see if I was feeling pain. On multiple visits she reviewed how well I was brushing had me demonstrate my brushing. This review led to the correction of brushing inadequacies that have led to unnecessary decay. I am strongly impressed with Dr. Tekle's commitment to preventive dental care, especially making sure the patient is doing everything possible to minimize dental problems. She takes whatever time is necessary to discuss dental issues and works hard at determining the possible sources of dental problems. She is easy to talk to.

Dr. Tekle has an amazing practice. She is always friendly and puts the patient at ease. When I first came to her I had real anxiety as a dental patient. That is all behind me now and she has made visits truly enjoyable.
